Aquatic Remedies Paracidol
Aquatic Remedies Paracidol (often called Paracidol FW) is a broad-spectrum, copper-based fish medicine made to control common external parasites in freshwater aquariums and ponds. If your fish are scratching, flashing, showing white spots, or developing cloudy eyes, paracidol can be part of an effective treatment plan when used correctly.
Moreover, it’s widely used for parasite issues in koi and goldfish systems, and it has been successfully used in cases commonly referred to as koi/goldfish “sleeping syndrome” (where fish become unusually lethargic and sit at the bottom).
What Paracidol is used for
This anti-parasitic fish treatment is commonly used against external parasites such as:
-
White spot (Ich) symptoms (tiny white dots, rubbing on surfaces)
-
Gill and skin flukes (rapid breathing, irritation, excess mucus)
-
Fish lice and similar external pests
-
Anchor worm–type symptoms (visible parasites or persistent scratching)
-
General external parasite outbreaks in freshwater tanks and ponds
Additionally, early treatment helps reduce stress and lowers the chance of secondary infections caused by damaged skin.

How to use Paracidol (Directions)
Step 1: Calculate your real water volume
Measure tank/pond water volume accurately (after substrate and décor). Correct dosing matters with any copper-based fish medicine.
Step 2: Remove chemical media
Before dosing paracidol, remove:
-
Activated carbon
-
Zeolite
(These can absorb medication and reduce effectiveness.)
Step 3: Dose Paracidol
Standard dose: 10 ml per 100 liters
Alternate easy measure: 5 ml per 25 liters
Step 4: Treatment schedule
A commonly followed schedule is dosing on Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 5, and Day 7.
Stop treatment once symptoms disappear, and the fish return to normal behavior.
Step 5: Water changes (if needed)
If required, do a 25% water change to maintain comfort and stability during treatment—especially if fish show unusual stress.
Important precautions
Because Aquatic Remedies Paracidol is copper-based, please follow these precautions:
-
Do not use with invertebrates (shrimp, snails, crabs)
-
Avoid use with scaleless/sensitive fish unless advised by an experienced aquatic professional
-
Do not overdose, and do not mix randomly with other medicines
-
Maintain strong aeration and stable temperature during treatment
-
After treatment, you can reintroduce carbon/zeolite after about 10 days (or as needed) to polish water
When you’ll see results
Often, fish show improvement as irritation reduces—less scratching, calmer swimming, clearer eyes, and better appetite. However, results depend on correct diagnosis and stable water parameters. Therefore, always test ammonia, nitrite, and pH during an outbreak.
Who should use Paracidol?
Paracidol FW is best for:
-
Freshwater aquariums with parasite symptoms
-
Koi and goldfish ponds facing external parasite flare-ups
-
Hobbyists needing a reliable anti-parasitic fish treatment with a clear dosing routine
FAQs
Is paracidol safe for shrimp tanks?
No. Since paracidol is a copper-based treatment, it is not recommended for invertebrates like shrimp and snails.
Can I keep carbon in the filter during treatment?
No. Remove carbon and zeolite during dosing, because they can reduce the medicine’s effectiveness.
What if symptoms come back?
First, confirm the diagnosis and check water quality. Then, repeat treatment only as needed and avoid continuous dosing without a clear reason.
