About Pavan

Pavan is the co-founder of Ocean Paws and one of the most experienced aquarium hobbyists in India. With over 20 years of hands-on fishkeeping experience, he has built and maintained hundreds of aquarium setups across freshwater, planted, and marine reef systems. His journey from a curious beginner to a dedicated aquarium specialist is the story behind everything Ocean Paws stands for today.

How It All Started

Growing up in Hyderabad, Pavan developed a deep love for aquatic life at a very young age. His first aquarium was a simple goldfish setup on the family windowsill. Over the years, that modest beginning grew into a serious passion. He moved from goldfish to community fish, then into planted aquariums, and eventually into the saltwater reef systems he is best known for today. That hands-on progression through every stage of the hobby gives him a unique perspective that no amount of reading can replace.

Moreover, every mistake he made along the way became a lesson. Lost fish taught him about water chemistry. Failed corals taught him about lighting and flow. Each setback made him a better hobbyist and ultimately a more knowledgeable guide for the Ocean Paws community.

Why Ocean Paws Was Founded

Pavan co-founded Ocean Paws with one clear goal in mind. He wanted to build a store where hobbyists across India could find genuine, high-quality aquarium products backed by real advice. Most online pet stores in India are run by traders. Ocean Paws is run by a hobbyist who has made every mistake in the book and learned from each one. That difference shows in every product that reaches the Ocean Paws shelves.

Furthermore, he noticed a serious gap in the Indian market. Reliable aquarium guidance written for Indian conditions was nearly impossible to find. International guides assume stable electricity, easy access to live foods, and specific water parameters that simply do not match Indian tap water. Ocean Paws exists to fill that gap with content and products tested and relevant for Indian hobbyists.

Areas of Expertise

Over the years, Pavan has developed deep expertise across several areas of the aquarium hobby. His primary areas of focus include marine reef aquariums, planted freshwater aquariums, aquarium water chemistry, and fish disease diagnosis and treatment. He has kept hundreds of species including clownfish, tangs, soft and hard corals, Monte Carlo, Dwarf Hairgrass, and a wide variety of freshwater community fish.

Additionally, he has extensive experience with aquarium equipment including protein skimmers, LED reef lights, wave makers, canister filters, and CO2 systems for planted tanks. When he reviews a product on the Ocean Paws blog, it comes from direct personal use in his own setups. If something does not perform in his own tank, it does not go on the Ocean Paws shelves.
